(HCM CITYWEB)- In the framework of the visit to Europe of high-ranking delegation led by Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan dated September 9, Mr. Quan and Mayor of Torino city (Italy) Piero Fassino signed friendship and co-operation deal.
According to the deal, both cities will boost co-operation in trade, investment, education-training, science-technology, tourism, e-government, public administrative computerizing, urban planning and development, environment, etc. Both side commits to maintain frequent high profile exchanges, discuss solutions, solve any difficulties emerged in the process of implementation.
Earlier, Mr. Le Hoang Quan and Mr. Piero Fassino hold a meeting on co-operation fields that both sides show common interest. Mr. Piero Fassino said Vietnam is one of the fastest growing countries in Asia, more and more foreign companies are showing their interest in HCMC. Both sides affirmed the co-operation deal is a foundation for a sustainable development of HCMC.
On Sep 9, Mr. Quan and Vice Mayor of Torino city Enzo Lavolta chaired a trade-investment promotion seminar with participation of 40 big Italian companies.
The seminar provided information about co-operation results between Italy and Vietnam. Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Cao Chinh Thien said the bilateral trade between Vietnam and Italy has continuously developed since both countries established diplomatic tie in 1973. Italy is 18th largest export market of Vietnam and the 15th import market in the world. In Eu market, Italy is the 5th largest export partner and the third largest import partner of Vietnam. Till June 2015, Italy is ranked 28 out of 103 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 66 projects, total investment capital of US$ 391.96 million. Mr. Thien said Vietnam will organize Vietnam Food Expo II in HCMC from November 16-19 and Italy is an honorary country at this event.
At the seminar, Mrs. Antonella Maria, Head of International Co-operation Policy Department under Italian Ministry of Economic Development, said large economic firms of Italy are very satisfied with investment results in Vietnam. She also called Italian companies to make the best of advantages from EU-Vietnam free trade which 50% of Italian export products will enjoy im-ex tax reduction. She said that some fields that Italy can invest in Vietnam including safe food, food preservation, green energy, machinery, infrastructure, textile, fashion, ceramics, etc.
In his part, Mr. Le Hoang Quan committed to do his best to protect the legitimate rights and benefits of foreign investors in general and of the Italian investors in particular.
At the same day, Mr. Quan also conducted a survey of a subway in Torino.
