On Nov 20, the signing ceremony between Ministry of Information and Communications and HCMC People’s Committee on information and communications cooperation was held in Hanoi. Participants of the ceremony include Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong.
Speaking at the sigining ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed IT -Communications development is key task of HCMC. It is the city’s goal to become a pioneer in smart city development. He highly appreciated the signed cooperation program between HCMC and Ministry of Information and Communications, expressing his hope that this cooperation deal will promote the strong development of the city’s IT sector in the coming time.
Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong added the city now focuses on developing IT and electronics sectors, of which IT is one of its 4 key sectors. These 4 sectors have created 70% of total output of industries of HCMC. He said that IT is also one of 9 key service sectors, contributing 60% to the total service value of the city.
However, according to Mr. Phong, IT and electronics sectors still account for a modest proportion of the city’s industrial structure with only 4.4% compared to 55% of the three other sectors (gas, plastics chemistry and food processing).
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized the importance of ICT to the society. ICT is a foundation for development of other sectors. ICT helps change traditional industries and service sectors, open new industries and model of business.
Mr. Hung expressed his belief that the signed deal today between both sides is an important driving force for HCMC and Ministry of Information and Communications to achieve targets assigned by the Party and the State. At the same time, it is also a significant event to celebrate the 320th anniversary of establishment of Saigon.
