On February 2, HCMC Department Tourism hosted a 2014 year end summation ceremony and assessment for 2015. Vice Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hong attended.
In 2014, 4,4 million international visitors came to HCMC, up 7% compared to 2013, accounting for 56% of total international visitors coming to Vietnam (in 2014, 7,8 million international visitors coming to Vietnam, up 4% compared to 2013) and 100% of the plan in 2014. Domestic tourists coming to HCMC was estimated at 17,6 million, up 13% compared to previous year. In general, total tourism revenue in HCMC (travel, hotel, restaurant) in 2014 reached VND 86,109 billion, up 4% compared to 2013, accounting for 37% of total tourism revenue of the whole country.
HCMC Department of Tourism targets to attract 4,7 international visitors in 2015, up 7% compared to 2014, domestic tourists of 19,3 million, up 13% compared to 2014. Total tourism revenue is targeted at VND 94,600 billion, up 10% compared to 2014.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong hoped that HCMC continue to improve its image as a friendly, safe and attractive destination. HCMC needs to push up tourism growth based on promotion of international co-operation, active integration into international arena and effective competition with regional tourism.
