HCM City hoped to receive more foreign investors including those from Japan’s Kansai region in the time ahead, said Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tat Thanh Cang.

Cang said the city has been accelerating its economic growth with focus on key sectors such as support industry, infrastructure development, waste treatment and environmental protection during a reception for Director of the Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry Soichiro Seki in the city on May 21.

The city has developed the Vietnam-Japan Technology Area in the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Zone and planned to expand it to lure more investment from Japan in general and Kansai in particular, Cang said.

The vice chairman added that the city’ leaders attached great importance to enhancing relations with the region and established a working group to implement the localities’ agreements and MOU signed last year. He hoped that the co-operation ties between the two localities would be consolidated.

For his part, Soichiro Seki appreciated the active support the municipal authorities have continuously provided for Japanese enterprises operating in the city.

He emphasized that there remained a potential room for the localities to speed up bilateral co-ordination, especially in the support industry, which is the region’s strength. Enterprises in the Kansai region could also provide the city’s businesses with advanced technology in waste treatment and environmental protection, he added.
