French architecture on exhibition in HCMC

In the morning of Nov 4, at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, HCMC People’s Committee coordinated with Ministry of Home Affairs and Consulate General of France to open the exhibition themed “French style architecture in HCMC”.


A total of 300 documents and photos stored at National Archives of vietnam and France were displaye at the show. Many of them were first introduced to the public featuring the process of establishment of Saigon-Cho Lon-Gia Dinh-HCMC since Maquis Nguyen Huu Canh established territorial sovereignty in the South from 1868 to 1945.

In addition, the show aslso diplayed photos of French styled achitectural projects built by France in Saigon since the second half of 19th century and first half of 20th century; Headquarter of HCMC People’s Committee, Nortre Dame Cathe, Central Post Office, etc.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Chan Vinh Tuyen emphasized that HCMC hopes to introdue precious documents, photos, maps stored at National Archives of Vietnam and France on the process of establishment and construction of Saigon-HCMC since the second half of 19th century and first half of 20th century. The show is an opportunity for the city’s citizens and tourists to exchange cultural and historical activities as well as to expand Vietnam-France Friendship cooperiton relation in the coming time. The exhition took place till end of Nov 24.
