In order to prevent bird flu in HCMC, especially in the occasion of the 2016 Lunar New Year, HCMC People’s Committee requests People’s Committee of districts to strengthen propaganda programs on risks, harms of bird flu, mobilizing farmers to apply biological safety methods and veterinary hygiene in animal husbandry, recommending consumers to choose safe, quarantined products with clear origin, strengthening veterinary disease control at household, farming, restaurant, etc, strictly dealing with food safety violations, preventing illegal transport and trading of fresh livestock, arranging checking points, inspecting slaughterhouses, etc.

Functional departments-agencies need to build plans to prevent bird flu disease outbreak in 2016; to mobilize local people to take sanitation measures, sterilize their farming, slaughterhouses, markets and selling points; to inspect and to handle illegal trade of live poultry, to control the origin of animal and poultry before entering slaughterhouses, to inspect imported frozen products at cold storage to ensure full quarantine certificates, to guarantee vaccination rate of over 80% at farming, strengthening prevention activities of H5N1, H7N9 diseases, etc.

According to HCMC Veterinary Department, trading activities of illegal live poultry in some localities are not thoroughly handled, there are still 25 locations that are trading illegal live poultry, there remain some illegal slaughterhouses in HCMC.
