On April 3, senior representative of US consulate general in Vietnam, Mr. David McCawley at the press conference announced that the expansion of extension of visa renewal by post has taken effect on April 1. This is a new innovation to create favorable conditions and safety for those who apply for US visa renewal.
Extension of via by post allows visa applicants to extend US nonimmigrant visa via post without direct interview.
Visa renewal applicants can enjoy benefits of an expanded program if following demands are met: Vietnamese citizens or permanent citizen in Vietnam; being presented in Vietnam; nonimmigrant visas of E, H, L, P or R; visa still valid or expired less than 12 months; for all other nonimmigrant visas, applicants must have US nonimmigrant visas that are still valid or expired less than 48 months; applying the same categories of the issued visas.

According to David McCawley, Vietnam and US are preparing for becoming members of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement and marking the 20th anniversary of normalization of diplomatic ties, both sides will make it easier for people of both countries to visit each other, cost cut and time of visa extension. He affirmed that in the next 20 years, the US hope to strengthen relationship between both sides’ people to further develop bilateral relationship.
