On March 24, Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Tin had a meeting with HCMC Department of Construction, Department of Transport and People’s Committee of District 1 to find out measures of expanding parking areas, creating favorable conditions of pedestrian in Nguyen Hue street.
According to Department of Construction, in the radius of 500 meters with an area of 104 hectares, there are now 59 high-rise buildings allowed to keep cars and motorbikes in underground parking lots but almost spaces are now occupied, only Vincom is capable of receiving (app. 20%). According to the survey data, parking fee for motorbikes is from VND 5000 to VND10.000, for cars from VND40.000 to VND50.000/car/hour. Underground parking lots are now impossible to receive visitors’ vehicles.
According to the planning, HCMC has chosen some locations for parking lots such as Hoa Lu Stadium, Tao Dan park, 23/9 park, Le Van Tam park, Trong Dong Theater, etc. these projects are still not implemented due to lack of investors or legal problems
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin requested People’s Committee of District 1 to investigate spontaneous parking lots on the sidewalks; negotiating with owners of underground parking lots to reduce parking fees for visitors. In addition, HCMC Department of Transport is requested to submit its parking lot project along Ton Duc Thang Street to HCMC People’s Committee. At the same time, People’s Committee of District 1 must build management regulations of Nguyen Hue walking street and a park near Bach Dang Wharf.
