On June 18, in HCMC, Eurocham organized a workshop entitled: “How Vietnam-EU FTA to promote green growth?” Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Tat Thanh Cang attended.

Mrs. Nicola Connolly, Chairwoman of EuroCham, said European companies hopes that Vietnam-EU FTA will be soon signed in order to promote investment in Vietnam. In the next 5 years, EU will spend 350 million Euro speeding green growth in Vietnam.

Once signed, Vietnam-EU FTA will promote investment and innovation, technology modernization, strengthening productivity, boosting output for production fields, promoting production capacity and competitiveness of local enterprises, and then promoting green growth in Vietnam.

According to EuroCham, European businesses investing in green growth are categorized into four groups including renewable energy, energy savings, sustainable building, and waste and wastewater treatment. These fields are entirely consistent with the orientation to growth and toward sustainable development of HCMC in particular and Vietnam in general. Vietnam needs trade mechanisms attractive enough to lure foreign investors.

HCMC are encouraging enterprises to do research and to renew investment, to apply science and modern environment-friendly production technology. The city has launched 6 key programs to execute the green growth strategy: economic structure transfer, reduction of traffic congestion, reduction of environment pollution, administrative reform, improvement of human resource quality, reduction of flooding.

Mr. Cang hoped that Eurocham, in the coming time, will support, share its experience and coordinate with HCMC to carry out programs and projects of improving and developing necessary conditions for green growth of HCMC.
