In 2014, HCMC has focused on improving legal system of environment to enhance efficiency of State management, responsibility of environmental protection of individual and organizations, contributing to protection of health, improving quality of lives of people, strengthening solid waste classification program at markets, supper markets, export processing zones-industrial parks, hospitals; carrying out garbage classification at Section A – Phu My Hung new urban area (District 7); reviewing pilot program of garbage classification at households.
According to report of HCMC People’s Committee, collection, transport and treatment rate of urban solid waste reached 100%, 100% for health care waste. Rate of health care waste water treatment stayed at 99,7%, far behind the planned target because 3 hospitals under the Central Government have not completed their wastewater treatment systems in accordance with environmental standards regardless of regular inspection or reminding by documents of HCMC and of relevant ministries and departments.
Wastewater treatment situation at industrial parks-export processing zone reached 100% as planned. 35/37 establishments completed pollution treatment thoroughly (95%), the rest of 2 establishments under the Central Government’s management need to solve the problem. In general, targets of environment achieved as plan except for health care wastewater treatment and number of establishments causing pollution.
In 2015, HCMC will concentrate on inspecting, controlling and preventing air pollution, noise, surface and underground water pollution, common solid waste, hazardous solid waste; solving serious polluted areas; increasing areas of green trees, flower gardens, grass, park, etc, especially at the center of HCMC; building a green and clean city; raising awareness of environmental protection.
