On the invitation of Cuban Parliament, a delegation led by Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee paid a visit to Cuba from May 31 to June 7. The visits aims to seek trade-investment cooperation opportunities.
During a talk with President of Commission on International Relations of Cuban National Assembly cum President of Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association Yolanda Ferrer Gómez, Mr. Phong briefly introduced the role of HCM City in Vietnam’s development, especially in economy, as well as the city’s special mechanisms and achievements in management of development materials and budget, administration decentralization and improvement of people’s living standards.
In his respect for Cuban people’s valuable sentiments and assistance to Vietnam, Mr. Phong affirmed despite of encouraged results in many years, potential for cooperation is still huge, saying that HCMC is Vietnam’s first locality to realize the outcomes of the recent visit to Cuba of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
After recalling her impressions on the development of Vietnam during his recent visit, Yolanda Ferrer appreciated the Vietnam’s experience in developing and operating the National Assembly together with the system of people’s councils and people’s committees at all levels.
Mr. Yolanda Ferrer also briefly introduced missions of Cuban National Assembly (session IX) that began in Mid April, as well as its key objectives in the process of reshuffling its constitutions and holding the extraordinary meeting in early June. He affirmed the determination of Cuba’s leaders to make necessary changes to achieve its desire of building the socialism.
On the sideline of the talk, President of Cuba National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his deep touch that both countries’s people gave to each other its his recent visit ot Cuba, saying that Vietnam’s development experience and legislation are useful for Cuba in its process of policy making.
In a meeting with Vietnam delegation, Deputy President of Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz briefed recent achievements that Cuba has made in its recent socio-eonomic model update, both sides also reviewed key cooperation projects as well as potential fields for trade and investment cooperation.
Mr. Phong also worked with Chairman of People’s Council of La Habana Reynaldo Garcia Zapata City to exchange development experience of both countries. He also presented a US$ 50,000 to help La Habana and other localities which were seriously suffered from recent prolonged flood.
During the visit, the delegation also worked with Ministries of Foreign Trade and Investment, Tourism and attended the Vietnam-Cuba Trade & Investment-Tourism Conference, paid a visit to Mariel special economic zone, laid wreaths at Statue of Cuban national hero Jose Marti and Statue of President Ho Chi Minh, paid a visit to Vietnam Embassy in Cuba.
