(HCM CITYWEB)- On September 13, Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party’s Committee received a delegation from Cuba led by Mr. Santiago Perez Castellanos – head of department of Agriculture and Food of Cuba on a visit to HCMC.
At the meeting, Mr. Santiago Perez Castellanos said Vietnam-Cuba have many similarities despite of geographical distance, he expressed his impression on strong development of HCMC as a key economic center of Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong expressed his delight at receiving the delegation in the context of Vietnam-Cuba heading to the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Talking about agriculture in HCMC, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong said the city is developing urban agriculture, applying high technology, attaching urban agriculture with new rural area development. HCMC has allocated 71,000 hectares for agricultural production which puts a focus on safe vegetables, milky cow, decorative plants, etc. At the moment, there are 500 enterprises participating into agricultural development in a direction of modernization, efficiency, safety. In recent years, the average income of local people continues to increase at VND 40million/person/year, closing the gap between urban and rural areas.
Mr. Santiago Perez Castellanos added Cuba will study HCMC’s policies in agricultural development, apply experience of HCMC to promote agricultural development in Cuba. On this occasion, the delegation also paid a visit to HCMC hi-tech agricultural park.
