(HCM CityWeb) – In two day June 28-29, in HCMC, Integrated Circuit Design Research and Education Center (ICDREC) under Vietnam National University – HCMC coordinated with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) to organize an international conference on Integrated Circuit entitled “IEEE Joint Conference ICICDT-2016 & 4S-2016”. The conference attracted 50 professors and scientists from USA, Japan, France, Switzerland, Taiwan, Korea, etc.

“IEEE Joint Conference ICICDT-2016 & 4S-2016” is one of the most important events in electronics and IC sectors in 2016. According to Prof Dang Luong Mo, this is the first ever ICICDT was organized in HCMC. The event is an international forum for scientists to present and discuss IC technology, an opportunity for scientist, researchers, engineers, and students in IC industry and semiconductor related technologies around the world to discuss and share experience.

At the conference, a total 60 reports was presented in 4 topics: low power IC for mobile devices, advanced sensor world, processors for future technology generations, low investment IC manufacturing factory.

Speaking at the conference, Associate Prof- PhD Huynh Thanh Dat, Permanent Deputy Director of Vietnam National University – HCMC said the Government in recent years as well as HCMC have issued preferential policies and open mechanisms to attract investment and to create favorable conditions for the young IC industry to develop. The city has built large-scale IC development program like the program on IC development in the period of 2013-2020.

After 4 years, the program has achieved many encouraging results, especially the launch and effective operation of ICEREC. After 10 years of establishment (2005), ICDREC has designed a series of chip with high economic value and application such as Sigma K3, VN 8-01, VN 17-32, HF0-RFID, biochips, etc. effectively applying products like electric meters, container key, car’s black box, etc.

Mr. Ngo Duc Hoang, Director of ICDREC, said Vietnam IC industry is still young. It requires many opportunities to access to scientists in developed countries of IC industry and semiconductor related technologies, to seek partners and study experience.

According to Mr. Hoang, ICDREC together with US scientists, Synopsys Corp to develop chips under SOTB technology using low energy devices in IoT (Internet of Things) ecosystem. ICDREC has transferred and commercialized the first 8-bit chips in Vietnam under brand SG8V1 designed by engineers of ICDREC. It has helped establish a research and training community on IC in affiliated members of Vietnam National University – HCMC.
