On June 29, the 3rd General Meeting (2018-2023) of The Association of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Abroad (BAOOV) was taken place in HCMC with attendance of Vice Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs cum President of State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Vu Hong Nam, Permanent Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem, etc. and more than 300 representatitives of Vietnamese overseas entrepreneurs from 25 countries and territories.
In his opening speech, Dr. Nguyen Thanh My – President of BAOOV said the goal of the general meeting is to promote cooperation and to share information amongst businesses, entrepreneurs, domestic and international business organizations, to promote cooperation relations in fields of economy, trade, science and technology to contribute to socio-economic development.
In a report, Mr. My said that BAOOV through 2 terms of operation since 2009 has achieved postive results. BAOOV has built up a network of members from many countries and territories and created a favorable cooperation environment for Vietnamese overseas businesses; providing information related to domestic and foreign investment projects; providing consultancy to its members related to legal documents, administrative procedures, policies of the State. BAOOV, representing over 6,000 Vietnamese overseas businesses, aims to connect Vietnamese overseas businesses that seek investment and business cooperation opportunties to contribute to the national construction and development.
In his congratulation, Mr. Le Thanh Liem highly appreciated BAOOV’s spirit of responsibility and efforts in contributing to the socio-economic development of HCMC. He said the city is now making efforts in improving business and investment environment, promoting creative startup and creating favorable conditions for businesses. In addition, the city is now implementing may solutions to connect Vietnamese people around the world to join hands in buildind and developing HCMC. “The city is welcoming and willing to support and to create every favorable condition for business community, Vietnamese overseas to invest in the city”, stressed Mr. Liem.
He also expressed his hope that BAOOV and business community continue to maitain strong and sustainable development, to support HCMC to build a smart city toward fast and sustainable development.
Addressing at the meeting, Vice Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh praised performances of business community, Vietnamese overseas entrepreneurs and the key role of BAOOV in the last 9 years, saying that these have helped realize the policy of promoting the role of Vietnamese overseas to the national construction and protection.
Mr. Truong Hoa Binh noted: “Till now, there are nearly 3,000 companies doing business in Vietnam with total investment capital of US$ 4 billion. According to World Bank, the amount of overseas national currency exchange sent to Vietnam has reached US$ 14 billion, bringing Vietnam to the 10th place out of countries with largest amount of overseas national currencty exhange. “Achievements and contributions of enterprises, entrepreneurs, Vietnamese overseas people present their will, creativity and love, responsibility to their hometown and country”, emphasized Mr. Truong Hoa Binh.
Mr. Binh also informed socio-economic development situations of Vietnam with a 6,81% growth rate in 2017 and 7,38$ in Q.1 2018, the highest in the last 10 years while macro-economic situation maintained stable and inflation kept under 4%. Foreign exhange reserve reaches the highest level of US$ 64 billion. Vietnam has attracted a record of 13 million international tourists in 2017 and 7.9 million in the first 6 months of 2018. Vietnam has joined ino CPTPP and many other FTAs.
He expressed his belief that BAOOV will continue to promote the good tradition of Vietnamese people, upholding its role of gathering, connecting and expanding its activities to protect the legitimate benefits of enterprises, entrepreneurs and Vietnamese overseas, acting as a linking bridge to promote friendship and cooperation relations between Vietnam and international friends and making practical contributions to the socio-economic development and national protection.
Mr. Truong Hoa Binh also requested Ministries, Departments, localities, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, VCCI and The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs to postively support and to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese overseas in general and business community in particular to do business. The Government and functional organs continue to listen, support and remove difficulties for Vietnamese overseas to live, to do business in Vietnam.
