Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved a VND600 million (US$28,000) project to restore the 80 year old Hung King Temple in District 1.

The temple’s ceiling and roof will be fortified and retiled to prevent stagnant rainwater from leaking down to damage wooden pillars and frames.

The temple was built by the French around 1926 and is badly damaged. Wooden pillars have been decayed and the tile roof has been cracked or broken.

In 1985, the temple was repainted and the tiles were rearranged.
