The Labor Union of State Employee of Ho Chi Minh City has contributed VND3.7 billion (US$173,079) for many charity activities in 2014, said its chairman Nguyen Tai Manh at a meeting on January 9 to review its mission in the whole year.
Last year the union has concerted its efforts to collect from many sources to take care of disadvantaged state employees, and those who are suffering life-threatening illnesses and those with meager income in suburban districts as well as support employees to repair and provide Nguyen Duc Canh scholarships to children of employees.
In addition the union also contributed to the fund to support soldiers in beloved Truong Sa island and other soldiers. Total contribution is around VND3.7 billion (US$173,079).
The union also organized many activities such as Good Pressman and Editors which attracts the participation of 13 teams from newspapers and publishing houses in the city. The union encouraged employees to have scientific researches and 205 scientific reports have brought out VND5.2 billion (US$243,246) for the society.
The highlight of the union’s activities this year is to hold an exchange with the theme “Voice of voters, deputy’s responsibilities” about the salary reform, housing policies and environment pollution. In addition the union also launched the movement to follow Ho Chi Minh’s ethical model and “Vietnamese use Vietnamese commodities” campaign.
