City’s Catholics prays for peace in East Sea

Representatives of the Viet Nam Committee for Solidarity of Catholics, Catholic Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City and nearly 2,000 parishioners of Diocese of Tan Son Nhi prayed for peace in East Sea at Tan Huong Church in Tan Phu District, HCMC on June 4.

 

The praying ceremony was held under the call from Vietnam Episcopate. the Archbishop of Ho Chi Minh City Bishop Paul Bui Van Doc chaired the ceremony.
The ceremony aims to send message for peace in the East Sea as well as call on Catholics, parishioners and monks expressed their solidarity to protest China’s illegal placement of its Haiyang Shiyou-981 oil rig in Vietnamese waters.

Catholic priest Le Quang Dang from the Tan Son Nhi diocese said that parishioners of the diocese donated VND 400 million to support soldiers after the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Vietnam had called on to protest China’s illegal position of the oil rig in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vietnam’s East Sea.
