On April 9, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan received Mr. Bernd Lange, Chairman of European Parliament’s International Trade Committee on a visit to Vietnam to study about signing FTA with European Union (EU).
Mr. Quan said that the visit was very significant, co-operation relation between Vietnam and EU has achieved good results. Mr. Quan announced socio-economic development of HCMC, saying that there are now 600 foreign invested projects in HCMC with total investment capital of US$ 7 billion. Two way trade between Vietnam and EU in 2014 reached US$ 30 billion, of which HCMC and EU reached trade revenue of US$ 6 billion. There are now 2,600 representative offices of foreign nations and territories in HCMC, of which 1000 offices come from EU. In 2014, 4,4 million foreign visitors coming to HCMC, of whom 1 million come from EU.
Mr. Le Hoang Quan hoped that the working trip in Vietnam of a delegation of European Parliament’s International Trade Committee will conclude the signing of FTA. This move will be an important milestone bringing Vietnam-EU relations to a new height.
In his part, Mr. Bernd Lange highly appreciated successes of Vietnam in the last 40 years, especially of HCMC – an important economic-cultural center of the whole country. In the past years, HCMC has gained many economic achievements and sustainable development. Mr. Bernd Lange said that the working trip to Vietnam is a preparation for approval of signing FTA between Vietnam and EU.
Mr. Bernd Lange said that the final negotiations on signing FTA on June 2015 between Vietnam and EU will open many opportunities for strengthening co-operation in many projects, investment environments of both sides will be more transparent and impartial.
