On May 28, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan received a delegation of Vietnam-UK Friendship Network led by Executive Director Ben Chapman – Honorary President of the All Party Group for Vietnam.
At the meeting, Mr. Le Hoang Quan said Vietnam-UK relations have been well developed after 40 years of establishment of diplomatic ties. There are now 1,000 British people living and working in HCMC, 103 projects of the UK worth US$ 550 million and 25 representative offices of British companies in HCMC. Two way trade between HCMC and the UK in 2014 reached US$ 750 million, of which export products to UK worth US$ 500 million and import worth US$ 250 million.
According to Mr. Quan, HCMC has many UK educational and training centers, 33 English language training centers. The UK also provides training course for personnel of HCMC. In the last few years, many UK high profile missions paid visits to Vietnam and HCMC; these missions have been paying special interest in promoting The UK-HCMC co-operation relation. Mr. Quan highly appreciated the role of Vietnam-UK Network and hoped that the Network will further promote Vietnam-UK relation in the future. He affirmed that HCMC will try its best to contribute to the good friendship relation between both countries, assigning HCMC Friendship Association and Vietnam-UK Friendship Association the job of discussing co-operation programs with Vietnam-UK Network.
In his part, Mr. Ben Chapman said that Vietnam-UK Network – established in 2013 – is a group of organizations, individuals who are living in Vietnam and the UK, all have a special sentiment towards Vietnam, all hope to further promote co-operation relations between Vietnam and the UK in all fields. He thanked leaders of HCMC for warmed welcome and affirmed that Vietnam-UK Network will organize many business connectivity activities in the coming time to further strengthen multi-disciplinary co-operation relation and contribute to the already good relationship and understanding between people of both countries.
