In the afternoon of June 14, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong recieved Speaker of the Congress of Federated States of Micronesia Wesley W. Simina and a high-profile delegation on a working visit to Vietnam.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Phong welcomed Speaker Wesley Simina and the delegation to Vietnam, expressing his belief that the visit will contribute to the well-development relations between Vietnam and Micronesia in general and with HCMC in particular after 23 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1995-2018).
Mr. Phong added that geographic distance and inconvenient traveling conditions are barriers for promoting Vietnam-Micronesia bilateral cooperation. Therefore, Mr. Phong expressed his hope that both countries, including HCMC and Micronesia need to strengthen investment promotion activities in fields of agriculture, aquaculture, seafood processing, tourism, oil and gas exploitation, education-training, etc.
According to Mr. Phong, HCMC and Micronesia will promote both sides’ strengths to strengthen cooperation activities in fields of economy, trade and people to people.
Thanked HCMC’s leaders for warm welcome, Speaker Wesley Simina said he is impressed at the city’s dynamic development, saying this visit will open new cooperation opportunies for both Parliaments. He also affirmed to furthe promote cooperation in fields of the city’s strengths such as trade, agriculture, tourism, education and training, etc.
