On April 13, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee received Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Philip Hammond on his courtesy visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong highly appreciated the visit of Mr. Philip Hammond to Vietnam following the recent visit to Vietnam of UK Prime Minister David Cameron in 2015. The visit is a clear proof for well-developed relation between both countries and opens co-operation opportunities for HCMC’s enterprises and UK partners in fields of investment, trade, infrastructure, etc.
Mr. .Phong said the UK is a very important trade partner of HCMC, ranked 8 out of 74 countries and territories investing in HCMC. Apart from economic development, HCMC is paying a special attention to social security and enhancement of human resource quality. The UK has strengths in education that can help the city train a high quality human resource to meet the demands of development and integration.
Mr. Phong expressed his hope that UK investors will strengthen their investment in HCMC, affirmed foreign investment is an important resource, the success of foreign investors is the city’s one
Mr. Philip Hammond said the UK is always attaching importance to bilateral relation with Vietnam, saying the visit will open more co-operation opportunities at both government and local levels in the coming time.
He highly valued the role of HCMC as well as it development potential. He affirmed the UK will be ready for supporting HCMC to train high quality human resource and to develop urban infrastructure.
