Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong receives Swiss Ambassador

On March 23, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong received Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Beatrice Maser Mallor on a courtesy visit to HCMC.

At the reception, Mr. Phong affirmed that Vietnam-Switzerland friendship and co-operation relation has been well developed and upgraded to a new height when both countries are preparing for the celebration of 45 years of diplomatic relation, saying that Switzerland is one of the leading partners of Vietnam.

At local level, Switzerland ranks 13th out of 73 countries and territories investing in HCMC and 23rd out of countries with largest number of visitors to HCMC in 2015. In addition, Switzerland has been investing in many key projects in HCMC including green transport project worth US$ 10, 5 million. This project has helped HCMC reduce transport pressure from personal vehicles and traffic congestion.
In a brief of socio-economic development orientation of HCMC, Mr. Phong said the city strives to make HCMC a big economic-cultural-scientific and technology center of the region. The city has been investing in 4 key industries with high content of science – high technology and high added value including mechanical engineering, electronics-IT, chemical (pharmaceutical-biochemical) and food processing. In parallel, the city continues to develop 9 groups of potential services, of which the city focuses on improving proportions of international trade sectors, finance, banking credit, port services-warehouse, logistic, tourism, real estate, etc.

According to Mr. Phong, in order to achieve this, the city has launched many renewed poli-cies, completing its mechanisms, improving investment environment to call for foreign invest-ment. He expressed his hope that Switzerland continues to strengthen co-operation with HCMC in fields of Switzerland’s strength such as banking, finance, trade, tourism and tech-nical infrastructure, etc. He also hoped that Mrs. Beatrice Maser Mallor would help encour-age Swiss companies to invest in HCMC to contribute to the well-developed relation be-tween both countries.

In her part, Mrs. Beatrice Maser Mallor highly valued the Vietnam-Switzerland relation with many positive results achieved in the last 45 years. Vietnamese goods are now accounting for a big market share in Switzerland. In HCMC, Switzerland is the 4th largest foreign investor of European block.

On this working visit, Mrs. Beatrice Maser Mallor said Swiss business community highly va-lued the investment environment of HCMC as well as big efforts of HCMC’s authority through investment attraction policies. She affirmed that she will continue to introduce HCMC’s investment environment to Swiss businesses to contribute to the good relation of both countries.
