(HCM CityWeb) – On July 21, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong received new British Consul General Ian Gibbons on a courtesy visit to HCMC.
At the reception, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong gave a brief introduction of socio-economic development of HCMC, saying that beside achieved results the city is facing challenges such as transportation infrastructures, flooding, and environmental pollution. In its development orientation, the city is focusing on calling and welcoming foreign investors including British ones to share and cooperate with the city.
Through Mr. Ian Gibbons’ role, Mr. Phong expressed his hope that Britain will share its experience in building a smart-civilized-modern city. He committed to create favorable conditions for British investors to do business in the city.
Highly value the Vietnam-Britain relation, Mr. Ian Gibbons said both countries have achieved successes in many fields. Vietnam-Britain friendship relation has been tightened through many bilateral high-profile visits.
Mr. Ian Gibbons added that there will be two high profile visits of British leaders to Vietnam accompanied by a business delegation in the coming time to study and support development of infrastructure for HCMC. The upcoming visits will further promote trade cooperation between both countries. He stressed that Britain will help HCMC seek common cooperation fields for mutual benefits and Britain will be ready for sharing its experience in building a smart city in the future.
