Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong holds talks with Australia’s Governor General Peter Cosgrove

At the meeting with Australia’s Governor General Peter Cosgrove on May 25, Chairman of HCMC Nguyen Thanh Phong highly appreciated the State-level visit of Sir Peter Cosgrove, expressing his delight at the well-established Vietnam-Australia cooperation relation, especially in the context of the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relation and the 20th anniversary of defense cooperation.



Mr. Phong said till April 2018, Australia has 182 investment projects in HCMC with total investment capital of US$ 188 million, bilateral trade between HCMC and Australia in 2017 reached US$ 915 million, Australia is now one of top 10 countries and territories with highest number of arrivals to HCMC.


On the basis of achieve results, Mr. Phong suggested that Australia continues to strengthen people to people exchanges and cooperation in fields of education, trade and investment, especially fields of Australia’s strengths such as education, hi-tech agriculture, creativity, startup ecosystem, smart city.


He expressed his hope that Sir Peter Cosgrove will continue to support Vietnam, including HCMC, in the process of innovation, global integration and development.


Thanking for warmly welcoming of leaders and people of HCMC, Sir Peter Cosgrove highly valued the city’s dynamic socio-economic development and HCMC-Australia cooperation relations. He said that high-profile delegations of Australia paid a visit to HCMC whenever visiting Vietnam to discuss and promote cooperation. According to Sir Peter Cosgrove, investment cooperation of Australia will surely grow in the coming time, especially in fields of creativity, education, etc. In this visit, the delegation will hold discussions with Vietnamese students at RMIR campus  and Vietnamese young enterprises about both countries’ cooperation relations.
