On December 14, Thu Duc Water Plant (Saigon Water Supply Corporation) held a ceremony to celebrate its 50th anniversary of establishment. Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Vo Thi Dung and Deputy Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Council Truong Thi Anh attended the ceremony.

Thu Duc Water Plant, formerly Dong Nai river water manufacturing establishment 1966 started its operation on 12 December 1966 with maximum capacity of 450,000m3/day. In the period of 1975-1982 under Vietnam’s subsidy economy and trade embargo, the establishment still overcame difficulty to maintain its stable operation, replaced and completed its river water pumping system and charcoal water filters to raise its capacity to 560,000m3/day.

With such a stable operation, Thu Duc Water Plant has become a water pressure and volume control center for the whole water supply system. The plant will reduce the water pressure when receiving new water source and gradually increase the water pressure when the water supply system works stably. If any water plant under the system faces a break down, Thu Duc Water Plant will make up for the deficiency. The plant will ensure water consumption output at peak or off peak times.

Apart from ensuring enough clean water for the city, Thu Duc Water Plant is also known by being a pioneer in training human resources for HCMC Water Supply sector. Till now, the plant’s human resource can be able to well complete the assigned tasks. The plant always focuses on training young generations of highly-skilled workforce, improving workers’ skills to meet the demands of the plant’s production modernization.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary Vo Thi Dung praised officials and employees of Thu Duc Water Plant, saying they have affirmed their important roles in continuously supplying clean water to meet the demand of local citizens in the last 50 years.
