Australia appoints new Consul General in HCMC

Australian Consulate General in HCMC announced the appointment of Mrs. Karen Lanyon Australia’s next Consul General in HCMC. Mrs. Karen Lanyon will begin her tenure in HCMC since January 2016

Mrs. Lanyan holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees from Australian National University. She is a senior career officer with Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She also served as Australian Consul General in Los Angeles. She previously was Director of DFAT’s New South Wales State Office, served overseas as Minister-Counselor and earlier as First Secretary at the Australian Embassy in Indonesia, Deputy head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Cambodia, Second Secretary at the Australian High Commission in Singapore.

Vietnam is now the 14th largest trade partner of Australia, two way trade of goods and services between both countries was valued at US$ 10 billion in 2014. Vietnam is the third largest source of international students and in 2015 over 160 Australians will study in Vietnam under our New Colombo Plan.
