On December 6, 2014 the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham Vietnam) – HCM City chapter awarded 45 AmCham scholarships and 17 honorable mentions to 62 students who passed the four intensive assessment rounds of the AmCham Scholarship 2014.

Mr. Marc Townsend, chairman of AmCham Vietnam, hands over scholarship to students

The total value of scholarships this year is worth more than VND1.5 billion, including 45 scholarships valued at VND10 million, 17 scholarships valued at VND4 million and 180 Foundation in Accountancy scholarships from ACCA Vietnam valued at VND5.5 million each.
Aside from financial support, AmCham scholarship recipients will also have the chance to be involved in certain AmCham activities, to join the AmCham Scholar Alumni/ae (ASA) Club, to take part in many environmental activities and to be recognized by nearly 500 AmCham member companies.
The number of applications this year increased in both quantity and quality. Applications were 556, increasing more than 30% compared to last year’s and being distributed evenly in all majors from economics, business, social science to science and technology. This affirms the attraction and prestige of AmCham Scholarship from students’ perspectives.
Besides, applications were well-prepared, therefore, highly competitive. Candidates’ professional performance from application forms to further assessment rounds showed their determination to be awarded the scholarship and their positive orientation toward improving soft skills and social communication.
Speaking at the ceremony, Marc Townsend, chairman of AmCham Vietnam, said the AmCham Scholarships Program is one of AmCham’s efforts to contribute to the business environment development in Vietnam by identifying and orienting high-quality human capital. Next year will witness a milestone in the scholarship journey, the 15th anniversary, and AmCham is considering to enlarge the scale of the program.
Beginning in 2001 with 10 scholarships and three universities, until now AmCham has awarded 405 scholarships and 223 honorable mention awards to students from 11 universities in HCM City.
