45th anniversary of Vietnam-the Netherlands diplomatic relations

On Nov 14, HCMC People’s Committee held the ceremony of the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-the Netherlands diplomatic relations (1973 - 2018).



On behalf of HCMC’s leaders, Vice Chairman Huynh Cach Mang sent his best wishes to the Consul General, employees of the Consulate General and the Dutch businesses and people working and living in the city. He stressed, in the last 45 years, Vietnam and the Netherlands have developed a multi-faceted cooperation relation. Both countries have become strategic partners in key sectors, making frequently high-profile exchanges as a foundation for building trust and strengthening friendship relation.

In the contest of well-established bilateral relation between Vietnam and the Netherlands, HCMC-the Netherlands relations have achieved many important retuls in fields of investment, trade, ect. The Nethelrands has now 132 investment projects in HCMC mainly focusing in fields of processing, manufacturing, mining worth US$ 1.8 billion, ranked 8 out of 100 countries and territoris investing in the city. In 2017, two way trade between HCMC and the Netherlands reached US$ 1.2 billion. Many enviroment and agriculture related projects funded by the Government of The Netherlands have been implemented in HCMC. Typical projects include improvement of capacity for the Steering Committee for Flood Control, Flower-Ornamental Platn transaction Center, etc. These are clear proof for the practial cooperation results achieved by HCMC and the Nethelands and a fouldation for further well-developed bilateral relation.

At the same time, education-training have huge potential for both sides’ cooperation. Tody, approximately 1,000 Vietnamese students study in the Netherlands. The Netherlands Education Support Office in Vietnam established in HCMC in 2006 is playing the more important role for strengthening cooperation between both sides’ universities.

The strengthening of political-diplomatic-economic-trade-investment-cultural-education exchange activities will surely contribute to the implementation and realization of the bilateral cooperation, mutual understanding and benefits for both countries’ people, Mr. Mang said.

Mr. Carel Richter, Dutch Consul General in HCCM said Vietnam is one of the most important markets of the Netherlands. It is a priority of the Netherlands to promote sustainable development concept in its trade and investment relation with Vietnam. Regarding to HCMC, the Netherlands Trade Promotion Organization has chosen HCMC a golded city for building the Dutch House. The project aims to support Dutch entrepreneurs working in the city, expressed Mr. Carel Richter.
