In the evening of March 27, at Reunification Hall, the Organizing Committee for big public holidays in HCMC organized the 40 anniversary of construction and develop-ment of the city’s youth volunteer force and an art performance entitled: “forever blue shirt of youth volunteer”
The event saw the presence of President Truong Tan Sang; Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee Dinh La Thang; and former Politburo member and Secretary of the City’s Party Committee Le Thanh Hai, together with 200 youth volunteers.
On the occasion, President Sang presented the Independence Order, third class, to the City’s Youth Volunteer Force for their dedication to the development of the nation in general and to the city in particular.
Reviewing glorious tradition of the youth volunteer force, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong stressed that the force is considered as a “big school” in training socialist people, a place for training generations of youth in the process of construction and protection of the nation.
After the launching ceremony on March 28 1976, more than 10,000 youth volunteers went about reclaiming uncultivated land, creating fertile areas. With a program of “Rising pink flag in new land”, members of youth volunteer force have created fertile lands. After a short period, the force made great contributions to protecting the southwestern border and fulfilling international obligations in Cambodia
Many of them have sacrificed at borders or in neighboring countries. During the renewal process, they have continuously carried out their new tasks and made contributions to the socio-economic development.
After 40 years, the city’s youth volunteer force is always playing the role of specific socio-economic organization with important political role to implement their assigned tasks.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong suggested that this force in the coming time needs to diversify their activities, ready to fulfill their new tasks, actively co-operating with functional organs to ensure social safety and urban civilization. The force also needs to uphold and build up products made by youth volunteer. In addition, enterprises of youth volunteer force need to actively support rehabilitation centers to manufacture and to solve jobs for students.
At the ceremony, a special arts program was held to honor Vietnamese youth volunteers, evoking emotions among delegates and audience.
