In the evening of Nov 15, Embassy of Poland in Vietnam held the 100th anniversary celebration of National Independence Day in HCMC (11/11/1918 - 11/11/2018). Standing Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem attended the ceremony.
On behalf of HCMC People’s Committee, Mr. Liem stressed that since Vietnam and Poland signed diplomatic relations in 1950, Poland was an active supporter for Vietnam in the struggle for independence, liberation and the process of national construction and development. In recent years, both countries’ cooperation relation has strongly developed in many fields with two way trade in 2017 reaching US$ 2.3 billion and US$ 750 million in the first 6 months of 2018. Vietnam is now one of five most important markets of Poland and Poland is one of Vietnam’s most important market in Central and Eastern Europe. Based on the well-developed cooperation relation, HCMC will continue to closely coordinate with Embassy of Poland in Vietnam and related agencies to bring both sides’ cooperation relation to a new height.
For his part, Ambassador of Poland in Vietnam Wojciech Gerwel said despite of geographical distance, Vietnam and Poland have estalished long and close cooperation relations. Both countries have many similarities in the history of struggle against foreign invaders and people to people linkage. Since 1950, a total of 5,000 Vietnamese students an interns have graduated from Polish universities, many of them are now living and working in Poland. Vietnamese people community have contributed to the diverse culture and economic growth of Poland. Mr. Wojciech Gerwel added that on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of National Independence Day of Poland, Vietnam and Poland will continue deepening and tightening cooperation relations in many fields in the coming time.
